Second Chance Sony MDR-EX650AP Gold

Now more than two weeks ago I decided to get rid of my Sennheiser's (CX-400 II Precision). Although I was very satisfied with my previous set, I now chose the slightly more expensive Sony's, as these were remarkably well reviewed.

After receiving it, I was positively surprised about the design and build quality of the set, especially in comparison with my previous (plastic) Sennheiser's. The braided wiring gives the cord a 'cable look' and the gold-coloured housing and details provide a luxurious look.

My experience with previous Sony-in ears is that the caps protrude far from the ear, which I don't like. Fortunately, these are not bothered by this and are not very noticeable when they are in the ear. The silicone caps also have a good fit and do not get bored easily.

I saved the most important thing about these earplugs for last. Because unlike some headphones, you don't wear in-ear earplugs as a fashion accessory. Fortunately, the sound quality is all right and my previous set is clearly surpassed. In reviews I read that the bass would be quite present, but high sounds and the midrange sound fuller than with the Sennheiser's.

If there is one thing that I have to criticize, it is that the bend where the jack plug is connected feels a bit vulnerable. But this probably just takes some getting used to...

All in all, they are great earplugs. Good build quality, a nice design and great sound! Recommended, especially for the price.

Initially I was very happy with it until after half a year the coating of the jack plug came off. Because the coating came off halfway there are fluctuations in voltage when your jack plug moves, which it always does when you move yourself, and because of this your mobile sees that as signals to do things like pause or check music, turn volume up or down or turn on Google assist. This makes these earplugs unusable after six months with everything that requires movement, walking or cycling. Very dissatisfied.

After having had a few earplugs, from Beats and Sennheiser, among others, I came across these earplugs through an article and review of a renowned hi-fi magazine. I had just purchased the Cowon Z2 Plenue and of course wanted to enjoy the very best sound. And that's what I got with these earbuds from Sony. Every kind of music, from classical to rock, sounds so clear, deep and with such bass that I sometimes doubt whether the speakers are still on. Highly recommended and worth every euro!
