Second Chance ASUS RT-AX82U

I am positively surprised at the difference this router makes with its predecessor, a Netgear AC Router. The range is better, but in particular the latency is much lower (waiting for a site to load / an app to respond is better)
The web interface is also easy to operate, which is great! Installation is easy: cables in, set password via simple wizard in the browser and go.
Tip: if you enter the same password as your previous WiFi network, most devices will continue to work. But not on one Windows 10 device and an Android 11 (too new?). The solution is to remove the network and add it again on those devices.
I didn't buy it myself for the looks, but I think it will appeal to the gamer target group.
In short, I am very satisfied.

Connecting was very easy. Previous router struggled with the amount of devices here in the house and the range in the attic was minimal. With this new router, finally another week (and counting) without broken connections and also still good range in the attic.

Appearance is a bit pubescent. Certainly with the disco lighting on, but it can easily be switched off.

This Asus RT-AX82U is a great router that gamers in particular should consider. With WIFI 6 (AX) you are already in a good position for the future, the world is slowly but surely moving there. Everyone can then benefit from stable and above all fast internet without annoying drops in connection quality. Don't have a WIFI 6 device at home? No problem because this router is also backwards compatible with, for example, WIFI 5 (AC). On 5Ghz you get a maximum speed of 5.378Gbps and that's ridiculously fast that other routers can't reach.

This Asus RT-AX82U is Dual Band, so you can use 2.4GHz and 5GhZ. The first has a longer reach, good for the attic or the garden, for example. 5GHz is much more stable, faster, but has a shorter range. This router also supports 160MHz channel width. This makes the channel width versus WIFI 5, which creates a faster connection between the router and a device. This significantly improves viewing of 4K content.

Installation is very easy via the configuration page or the included free mobile application. Within 5 minutes this router is set up with security and lighting to taste. Speaking of lighting, the RGB on this router makes this the coolest networking gear available. It looks like a stealth submarine! With the official application you can remotely set all kinds of profiles and colors for the lighting. Perfect of course for the gamers who love RGB.

For the gamers among us, the Asus RT-AX82U is extra important, because it has some cool features. To start with, there is a low latency mode for mobile, which you can easily enable via the free application. The result is that you get a better mobile multiplayer experience with this. Think of games like Fortnite or PUBG where you no longer get lag. This Asus router is also suitable for Cloud Gaming. It is the first router approved by Nvidia for streaming service GeForce Now, but other streaming services such as Google Stadia and Xbox Game Streaming also benefit from this. Also interesting for gamers is that this Router has a unique gaming port on the back. 1 of the 4 network connections can be used for, for example, a game console. This device will then be prioritized so that lag and latency during gaming are a thing of the past. Finally for gamers, Asus itself has port forwardig functions per game. So you don't have to enable ports for every multiplayer game. With the push of a button you can enable it and then enjoy better connection to the servers of multiplayer games.

Everything I've listed so far is just the tip of the iceberg. This Asus RT-AX82U also has a lot of functions and features. Think QoS, setting up a guest network, a handy traffic analyzer, the possibility for filters, USB functions, the latest WPA3 security, regular updates, VPN and much more. In short, this is a router that is suitable for everyone, because it is future proof, but for the gamers and tweakers among us this Asus RT-AX82U is of extra added value!
