Second Chance Withings Scanwatch Black 42mm

This is a great hybrid watch: you get a REAL watch (unlike other "smart" watches, which are basically toys with (AMO)LED screens on your wrist) with awesome bodily measurements.

Compared to (fully) smart watches, it has very long battery durability (3-4 weeks on a single charge; compared to 1-2 days typical of other watches). The longer battery life means you can wesr it overnight to measure your sleep patterns and quality without the need to recharge every other day.

The notifications are much less distracting (compared to fully smart watches) as they are the way the notifications are minimally shown on its screen. (My partner and I had a Galaxy Watch Active2 and know how its notifications are a nightmare.) You can set wake up alarms on it and the watch vibrates at an optimal time based on the deepness of your sleep state.

The measurements are great. The watch detects if you are working out (and you can manually start a workout session too). It gas an altimeter that tracks, e.g., how many floors you have climbed in a day). Its ECG (heart signal) measurement has been clinically approved, and gives you insights into your cardiac health.

It looks great, and has made a huge improvement compared to Withings' former SteelHR. I personally prefer the 38mm version (as fits my wrist better, and the corners are more beautiful). Though my boyfriend loved the 42mm black version which has florescent clock hands and a red hand that shows how active you've been.

All in all, I highly recommend buying it. It has a relatively high price tag, though it is totally worth your money.

Thanks to the other reviews (and the helpful employee when picking it up in the store) I was already aware of the limitations in terms of functionality and that some things have to be done via the app and not via the watch itself. The design of this watch was decisive for me, in addition to doing what is important to me: tracking activity, heart rate and sleep. I'm not going to wear an ugly (sorry) smartwatch from Apple and co. In terms of sleep, he sometimes counts a little longer while I'm just starting up quietly, but that is easy to adjust in the app. I am very satisfied with the quality of the reports and insights. Wear it for over a week now and the battery is still at 60% so that is also very nice.
By the way, I have a narrow wrist and the 38mm variant looks stylish and not bulky with a light-colored strap.

I've been using the Withings Scanwatch for a week and a half now. The watch is very nice. I was looking for a stylish successor to my Fitbit Alta HR, but didn't feel like walking around with a large screen on my wrist. The Scanwatch is the perfect compromise for me: still a very nice 'normal' watch with a number of smart functions that make it a great activity tracker. Even on a narrow women's wrist, the watch (38 mm version) looks beautiful.

The small round screen in the dial always shows a number of characteristics such as number of steps, calories burned, distance covered, heart rate. Using the crown on the watch you can easily navigate through these options. You can also use this to start an ECG or an SPO2 measurement. The accompanying healthmate app is easy to use and offers various health insights: how well you sleep, estimate of your fitness level, whether you are achieving your goals, how much you have trained. I was always very satisfied with the Fitbit app, but I also quickly got used to the healthmate app and actually miss few functions.

I still have to get used to the way the Scanwatch counts steps. I think the Scanwatch is accurate with walking and running, but when it comes to small distances in the house, many steps are not counted. I suspect that the steps are only counted from a certain number (10 to 20). As a result, my Scanwatch has structurally measured fewer steps at the end of the day than, for example, my Fitbit. It could of course also be that my Fitbit was always very enthusiastic about counting steps and that the Scanwatch is simply a bit more conservative in this. I don't see it as a big problem, it does motivate me to go for a walk / run more often ;)

One of the reasons for going for a hybrid watch is the battery life. After 9 days of (intensive) use, the battery level is currently 30%. I think with normal use I can use it for about two to three weeks without charging.

Withings has really done its best to make the Scanwatch a beautiful watch. Beautiful shiny silver colored watch case, high quality glass, a simple and subtle dial. I'm happy with it. The standard silicone watch strap is comfortable to wear. I will buy some other straps to give the watch an even nicer look. The straps that go on have a standard connection, so you can in principle easily buy a replacement. The Withings straps come standard with a quick release, so you can easily change them.
