I've already 'worn out' quite a few fans, but none of those devices lasted long in my house: they all make too much noise.
In many specifications, the noise level is expressed in dB at maximum fan power. That means nothing, because A) a relatively powerful fan can work fine on the lowest setting and then make relatively less noise and B) because dB says nothing about the nature of the noise.
The AM-07 produces more than enough air displacement on the lowest setting to sufficiently cool a large bedroom. As long as the air is in motion, you avoid 'dead', stuffy conditions. And on the lowest setting you hear a small noise (white noise) that is comparable to a computer fan. No whistle, no bass, just a murmur. That sound helps me sleep.
At position 2 you still only have noise. At positions 3,4 and 5 you can hear the engine whistling softly. If you go even faster, the noise drowns out the whistle. Even on the highest setting you have no hum/bass as almost all fans with a rotor have.
The great thing is that I can now close the window if there is too much noise outside and that I still have a good climate, plus that any incoming noise is wonderfully filtered out by the noise of this Dyson.
In summary: if you are, like me, a sound neurot and you only sleep when there are no disturbing noises: then this is your fan!
