What's a smart plug?
Make all devices smart
With a smart plug, you can make all the devices in your house smart. This means you can connect a standard light or coffee machine to your smart home as well. The smart plug turns everything on or off. The functions are less advanced than with a truly smart device. For example, you can't dim the lights with a smart plug. You can only turn products on or off. That's why a smart plug is a good solution if you just want to make your entire house smart.
Connect to your smart home platform
You connect smart plugs to your current smart home platform. That way, you can include products connected to a smart plug into the automatization. Connect the plugs to a sensor, for example. As a result, all lights in your living room will turn on when you walk in. If you connect smart plugs to a voice assistant, you can turn them on with your voice. Thanks to this, you can turn on the fan in your bedroom while you're already in bed.
Control the plugs anywhere
Smart plugs work with an app on your smartphone too. You can turn connected products on or off via the app. You can also set timers, for example. Useful, if you want a product to turn on every day at the same time. With the app, you can control the smart plugs anywhere. For example, turn on the heater for when you get home, so your house is warm when you arrive. Or turn on a couple of lights when you're away for the night, so it seems like somebody is home.
Measure your power consumption
With a number of smart plugs, you can measure the power consumption of your devices too. Both when they're turned on and in standby. That way, you know how much your devices use exactly and prevent standby consumption. Does a product use a lot of power? You can turn it off entirely with the smart plug. It's similar to unplugging it from the socket. Please note that a smart plug uses a little bit of energy itself too. This is less than €1 per year.
