How do you solve battery problems with the Google Next Doorbell?
View the following steps:
When the battery of your Google Nest Doorbell doesn't work well, go through these tips:
- Tip 1. Check the cables and the socket
- Tip 2. Extend the battery life
- Tip 3. Check the old doorbell wiring
- Tip 4. Take the doorbell indoors when it's freezing
Tip 1: check the cables and the socket
First, make sure there's no problem with the power supply. Check if the doorbell does work with a different socket. Also check if the power adapter is plugged in correctly on both sides. Afterwards, check if the power adapter itself works by connecting the doorbell to a different power adapter.
Tip 2: extend the battery life
With these simple steps, you can extend the battery life of your Nest doorbell. Go to the settings of your Nest doorbell in Google Home and click 'Battery'. Turn on 'Automatic battery saver'. At a low percentage, the doorbell will use the electricity more efficiently. You can also adjust the recording settings in 'More battery life'. The recording quality and the length of the videos decreases. This way, you consume less power. Watch this video for more options.
Tip 3: check the old doorbell wiring
Did you connect the doorbell to the old wires? Check the wires for tears and rust. Due to damage, moisture can rust the wires and cause them to not work properly anymore. Your bell transformer might also be broken. This makes sure your doorbell gets the right voltage. When this doesn't work correctly, the doorbell also doesn't work. You can find this transformer or inverter in the distribution board. If you have experience, you can replace the wires and transformer yourself. Don't know how? Have an expert do it for you. You can see how to connect a Google Nest doorbell by wire in this video.
Tip 4: take the doorbell indoors when it's freezing
Google has confirmed that the Google Nest Doorbell doesn't charge when it's freezing. According to Google, the Nest Doorbell works in temperatures down to -20°C if it still has power. Below freezing point, the doorbell doesn't charge anymore. The app will show a 'Charging Paused' or 'Charging Slowly' notification. In addition, the doorbell also drains faster in lower temperatures. This doesn't mean the doorbell is broken. Unfortunately, the only solution is to charge the doorbell indoors when it's freezing. This also applies to the Google Nest Cam.
