Description
The AOC C24G1 is a 24-inch entry-level gaming monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate. You use this monitor for gaming in Full HD on a high fps setting. With a response time of only 1 ms, you're sure your screen responds fast enough, even during action scenes and in shooters. Thanks to the VA panel, you enjoy a high contrast and saturated colors in all your games. Because the screen is curved, you can immerse yourself in your gameplay. Thanks to the slim bezel, this monitor is very suitable to place two beside each other for the ultimate gaming experience.
Note: this product includes an HDMI cable by default.

1 ms comes at the expense of brightness and FreeSync. However, the monitor is bright enough to compensate for this.
Around this price point (under 200 EUR) you will hardly find a monitor that has as many pluses as this AOC C24G1.
1) The design
_______________________________________________________________________________
The design of the monitor is fairly neutral, but with the red accents it focuses on the person and/or gamer who also uses red accents in his/her setup. I would have preferred a more neutral color myself, but it concerns small accents (a small edge under the screen and an edge on the leg), so you can get over that.
Other than that, the monitor just looks great.
2) The image
_______________________________________________________________________________
The monitor displays an excellent picture, in which the contrast and black values in particular stand out. At high brightness, the difference between a black or white page is therefore one of night and day. In a dark environment, however, this can be experienced as unpleasant. This can be compensated by setting the brightness to 20-30%.
The standard color settings from AOC are also a bit off balance. By default, red/green/blue all 3 are at 50. I personally find the ratio 50/42/49 more neutral. The monitor has a number of profiles that you can choose from, each of which focuses on a specific game genre be it RTS, FPS or Racing games. I myself would avoid these profiles! The image becomes much too sharp and the colors are boosted too much. However, this can be easily remedied by adjusting a number of settings yourself and seeing what you like best.
The image is sharp enough for people who spend a short time on the monitor. As mentioned, I have the 24" model myself. 24" is generally recognized as the maximum size at 1080p. At 27" it is recommended to use a minimum resolution of QHD (1440p). The biggest factor here is the viewing distance, if you are far enough from the screen then this is negligible to a certain extent. But are you short on the screen? That I recommend (depending on the video card) to go for 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p.
A number of 27" 1440p monitors can be found on Coolblue. The 144Hz variants are a lot more expensive than this AOC C24G1. The 60/75Hz models are a bit more affordable.
3) Input lag, refresh rate and FreeSync
_______________________________________________________________________________
Then the most important thing for a gamer: input lag and refresh rate.
The monitor has little to no problems with input lag or ghosting. There is a setting called 'Overdrive'. This is turned off by default (just like FreeSync). With this setting off, there is some degree of ghosting in black-black transitions. But if you set this setting to 'Medium' or 'Strong', this will disappear completely. So I don't see the low level of ghosting on the 'Off' position as a disadvantage either.
The input lag is between 1 and 4 ms. The 1ms advertised only applies to black on black transitions. Again the 'Overdrive' option offers the solution here. However, only highly competitive pro gamers will notice a difference between 1 and 4 ms here. If you still want to get the most out of this monitor in terms of response time, this will come at the expense of FreeSync and brightness. The aforementioned 'Overdrive' setting also has a 'Boost' option. With this option, the input lag/refresh rate is at its lowest, but at the expense of maximum brightness and FreeSync.
FreeSync also works great with both AMD and Nvidia video cards. I use the C24G1 in combination with a GTX1070 over DP. Nvidia has added FreeSync support to their drivers since February of this year. All GTX 10-series and RTX-series cards support 'G-Sync Compatible' monitors. 'G-Sync Compatible' is Nvidia's term for FreeSync. This only works via DisplayPort, so I think it's a big plus that AOC provides both an HDMI and DP cable with the monitor.
4) Additional note 1: Settings menu
_______________________________________________________________________________
I read that many people find the internal menu navigation (OSD, On Screen Display) very unpleasant. I don't agree with this myself, but for the people who can't get used to it, there is also a program with which you can adjust the settings of the monitor from Windows. The program is called "AOC G-Menu" and is fully compatible with the AOC C24G1.
5) Additional note 2: Energy consumption
_______________________________________________________________________________
For those interested and/or people who are consciously concerned with the energy consumption of their devices: The maximum power of this monitor is 20 W. This is 0.02 kWh per hour. At an average kWh price of 23 cents, this means that this monitor costs €0.0046 per hour to use. This is extremely low, which I personally find a big plus since most gamers have their monitors on for hours a day. The energy consumption will be even lower if you have not set the monitor to 100% brightness.
Conclusion
_______________________________________________________________________________
For less than EUR 200, the AOC C24G1 is a great monitor to have at home. The few drawbacks are outweighed by the price, especially when looking at the prices of competing brands. FreeSync works on this monitor with both AMD and Nvidia cards, which is again a big advantage. Finally, the energy consumption is quite an achievement of AOC.

Ease of use
After a lot of saving and a push from the faltering current screen, it was time for a new screen for my son.
Conditions, curved, max 200 euros, response time < 4 ms. We arrived at the msi and the AOC. It has become the AOC.
Order with great euphoria. First of all, kudos to coolblue. Something can really go wrong with everyone, but the extent to which coolblue reacts and solves something is extremely distinctive.
Receiving that cool blue blue is always euphoric and when unpacking all the build quality appears to be solid! Curved does indeed give that extra dimension effect and simply makes the game experience more fun and intense.
So out of the box the rendering is fine. Nice colors, especially for LCD. Vivid and the clarity is fine. After tweaking (which, incidentally, requires some logical thinking and patience), we have already managed to get a much better picture with gamma correction and mode. The colors really pop as if you have an OLED screen.
The black values, on the other hand, are less good, like most LCD LED TVs, but fine considering the price range. I am used to OLED and therefore maybe spoiled. Do we suffer? No, because it is used for gaming and it is fine for gaming. The black levels are more than sufficient for dark scenarios to spot enemies or activities.
The screen looks great on the desk.. But most importantly my son is very happy with his new screen!
