What type of lens do I use for nature and animal photography?

You go into the wild to take photos of plants and animals. But which type of lens should you use? In this article, you can find 4 lenses that are suitable for nature and animal photography. This way, you can find the lens that suits your next photo session best.

Telephoto lens

You can use a 70-200mm telephoto lens if you can get a bit close to the animals. It's still possible to zoom in, so you don't have to scare the animals. Thanks to the 70mm focal length, you can also fit some of the surrounding nature in the photo. More expensive telephoto lenses also have a maximum aperture of about f/2.0. This way, you can use a faster shutter speed to take photos of fast animals without increasing the ISO value.

Wide-angle with zoom

With a wide-angle lens, you can zoom in in any direction. You can take photos of pets and other small animals in their own environment. The lens is also suitable to take photos of large nature areas. With the wide angle, you can take beautiful landscape photos. When you take photos of animals, your lens has to have a large maximum aperture. Otherwise, the lens isn't suitable to take photos with a fast shutter speed.

This allows you to take clear photos of all details. There are also macro lenses that zoom. You can use these to take photos of a bird or butterfly that's farther away.
