Which aqua stop do you need for your washing machine?

An aqua stop on your washing machine or washer dryer combination offers protection from leakage. There are 3 types: a bottom leak sensor, safety hose, and overfill protection. It's safest if your machine has all 3. You can prevent wet feet that way. In this article, you can read how each aqua stop works and when you need a drip tray or extra water stopper.

Aqua stop washing machine: 3 types is the safest

Aqua stop washing machine: 3 types is the safest

You can choose between 3 types of leak protection. It's safest if your washing machine has each type:

  • Bottom leak sensor
  • Safety hose
  • Overfill protection

If your washing machine doesn't have all types, you can read if you need a drip tray or water stopper. That way, you can prevent a leak.

Bottom leak sensor: built-in drip tray

Bottom leak sensor

A washing machine with a bottom leak sensor has a built-in drip tray. This collects the water if there's a leak on the inside. The sensor on the bottom turns off the washing machine and indicates an error. Sometimes, the water supply stops automatically to prevent the tub from overflowing. Doesn't your washing machine or washer dryer combination have a bottom leak sensor? Make sure to always buy a drip tray too. Do you have a bottom leak sensor, but no safety hose or overfill protection? Buy a drip tray, just to be sure. The only time you don't have to buy a drip tray is if you have every type of protection.

Overfill protection: pumps out the water

Overfill protection

The overfill protection of a washing machine or washer dryer combination measures the amount of water in the drum. If there's too much water in the drum due to an error, the washing machine will pump this water away. That way, the drum won't overflow. Does your washing machine only have overfill protection? Buy a drip tray and water stopper with it. That way, you prevent damage if your hose breaks or your washing machine leaks on the inside. Do you have every type of leak protection? An extra drip tray or water stopper isn't necessary.

Safety hose: shuts off the water supply

Safety hose

A washing machine with safety hose has a double-walled supply hose with a water stopper, also called an aqua stop. If the inner hose breaks, the outer hose will collect the water. You can screw the water stopper onto the faucet. Once too much water is flowing through, the valve closes and the water supply stops automatically. Doesn't your washing machine have a safety hose? Buy a separate water stopper with it.

No water stopper? Buy one with it

  • You can easily connect the water stopper to your faucet and supply hose.
  • You can manually set how much water can run through the water stopper in one go.
  • As soon as there's a leak, the water supply shuts off after the set limit.
  • You don't need a water stopper if your washing machine already has a water stopper.
