3 tips if your Microsoft Surface doesn't turn on
First aid
Whichever Microsoft Surface device doesn't want to come out of the sleep mode, these 5 tips will help.
- Tip 1: check the battery and charging cable.
- Tip 2: disconnect peripherals.
- Tip 3: force reboot.
Check the battery
If your Surface device charged and does the charger work? Charging it should automatically turn on the Surface device. Charge your Surface device with a suitable cable. If the connector is plugged into the socket, disconnect the charging cable from the device and reconnect it. Do the same with the connector from the socket. Slightly bend the cable on different places to check for any loose connections. It can take up to 15 minutes for an empty Surface device to turn back on. Is the screen still black? Try a different charger and a different socket.
Disconnect accessories and peripherals
It's possible that a connected device like a keyboard, monitor, or external hard drive prevents it from turning on. That's why you should disconnect all connectors and SD cards from your Surface and try to reboot it again. Don't know how to reboot it? Go to tip 3 for shortcuts to reboot models like the Surface Go, Surface Laptop, and Surface Pro.
