How do you set up the shutter speed of your SLR camera?

Take your camera and turn it on. Turn the top of your camera towards you. On top of the camera, you'll find the button with various modes. In the modes P, TV, and M, you can set the shutter speed on a Canon SLR camera manually. On a Nikon SLR camera, you can use the modes P, S, and M. If you want the camera to adjust the other settings to the shutter speed automatically, you can turn the button to the TV / S mode.

Look at your subject you want to take a photo through the viewfinder or via the display to find the right shutter speed. Is your subject moving? Use a fast shutter speed to 'freeze' the subject'. If you want to show motion of the subject, set the camera to a slower shutter speed.

Next the the button on top of your SLR camera, you'll find a dial. Turn this dial to the right for a fast shutter speed and to the left for a slower shutter speed. You can see the shutter speed change on the display of your camera. You can recognize the shutter speed by values like 1/1000, 1/250, 1/1.3, and 5". If you see this change, you're doing the right thing.

You set the right shutter speed, so it's time to take photos. Press the button you usually take photos with. With a fast shutter speed, you can do that while you hold the camera in your hand. If you choose a slower shutter speed, the camera is sensitive to motion blur. That's why you should use a tripod for your camera. To be sure you take a sharp photo, use the self timer.
