How do you reset a TP-Link Archer router?

Did you forget the password for your TP-Link router? Maybe your router seems to have gotten a life of its own. Is your TP-Link router acting up? A reset can be the solution in many cases. Read how to reset your router below.

What do you need?

  • A TP-Link router (make sure it's on)
  • A paperclip (for method 1)
  • A laptop, desktop, or smartphone that's connected to the same network as the router, so you can set up the router again.

Method 1: using the reset button on the back of the device

  1. Use the paperclip to press down the reset button on the back of the router. You can find the button behind a small opening.
  2. Wait about 5 seconds for the power LED to light up. Now you can release the button.
  3. The router has now been reset and will restart.

Method 2: using the configuration page

  1. Create a wired connection between laptop or desktop and your router.
  2. Open an internet browser and search for tplinkwifi.net, or install and open the TP-Link Tether app via Google Play or the Apple Store.
  3. Log in with 'admin' as both the username and password, unless you've set this yourself.
  4. At the top of the page, you'll see 3 tabs. Choose 'Advanced'.
  5. A menu will appear on the left. Select the option here: 'System functions'.
  6. A number of other options now appear below your choice. Select: 'Backup and restore'.
  7. Now, click 'Restore factory settings' to reset the router. The router has now been reset.
