What noise level does your washing machine need?

If you want to place your washing machine close to your living room or bedroom, choose an extra silent or silent washing machine. They make relatively little noise during spinning. That way, you can watch TV or run a wash cycle when you sleep. You can read what noise levels there are and how you can choose an extra silent or silent washing machine here.

How loud is a washing machine?

How loud is a washing machine?

When buying a washing machine, you can choose from the following noise levels:

  • Extra silent (< 70dB).
  • Silent (71 - 72dB).
  • Average (73 - 76dB).
  • Loud (> 77dB).

Choose an extra silent or silent washing machine if you want to place it in or near your living room or bedroom. You can find the noise level on the energy label. Always look at the maximum noise level during spinning. Remember that every additional 3dB doubles the sound.

Extra silent: < 70dB

Extra silent washing machine

Do you sleep, work, or study in the same room as your washing machine? Or do you have children who wake up easily? Choose an extra silent washing machine. This has a noise level of 70dB or less during spinning. Thanks to the low noise level and the brushless motor, you won't be bothered by noise as much. That means you can do your laundry at any time and still sleep peacefully.

Silent: 71 - 72dB

Silent washing machine

If you want to place your washing machine in your open kitchen or next to your bedroom, choose a silent washing machine. These models have a noise level of 71 or 72dB. The spin cycle is louder compared to an extra silent washing machine, but you can still do laundry when you're at home and even when you're sleeping.

Average: 73 - 76dB

Washing machine with normal noise level

A noise level between 73 and 76dB is a normal noise level. You can clearly hear the washing machine, so it's best not to place it near your living room or bedroom. These models are more suitable for a closed kitchen or attic. Keep in mind that a washing machine that produces 76dB is twice as loud as a washing machine that produces 73dB.

Loud: > 77dB

Loud washing machine

A washing machine with a noise level of 77dB or more is very loud loud. This washing machine is suitable when you can place it far enough away from your living room and bedroom. In the attic, the basement, or shed, for example. It's also suitable if you want to do laundry when you're not at home. The washing machine will still make noise, but it won't bother you as much.
