How do you take a screenshot on the Microsoft Surface?
Overview
How you take a screenshot on the Surface, depends on your device. Without a keyboard, you just press the keys below on the device or use the snippet tool. With a keyboard, you can take a screenshot by using key combinations. Here's an overview of all options:
- Tip 1: on/off button + volume up button
- Tip 2: Windows key + mute key
- Tip 3: Windows key + print key
- Tip 4: look for the snippet tool

Screenshot without keyboard
Are you using your Surface Go, Surface Pro, or Surface Book as a tablet and don't you have a keyboard at hand? Take a screenshot like you'd do with a smartphone:
Press the on/off button and the volume button up simultaneously.
The screen should briefly turn black and go back on again. You can find your screenshot in your photo gallery in the "Screenshot" folder.

On the Surface laptop or other models with type cover, you can easily press the typical Windows keys to take a screenshot.

Screenshot with Snipping Tool
Do you just want to save part of the screen? Open the Snippet Tool program. Use the search bar on the bottom left to find it.
- Click New.
- Click and drag the selection box over the part of the screen you want to save using your mouse or finger.
- Edit the screenshot if necessary.
- Use the drive icon in the toolbar to save it.

- Double click the eraser button on top of the pen.
- Edit the photo or save it with the screenshot tool at the top left of the screen.
