How does your coffee get a better crema?
This is how you improve the crema on your coffee
We'll give you 3 tips to improve the crema on your cup of coffee.
- Tip 1: set the grind size of the coffee machine finer.
- Tip 2: increase the strength per cup of coffee.
- Tip 3: lower the water temperature.
Tip 1: set the grind size finer
A finer grind size creates more pressure when you brew the coffee. This creates a nice and creamy crema. The dial for the grind size is in the bean hopper. Set the grind level one or several settings lower. Always do this in steps of one. For example, first from 4 to 3 and then from 3 to 2. Only turn the dial while the bean grinder is grinding. This way, you avoid damaging the grinder.
Tip 2: increase the coffee strength
Increase the strength per cup with the aroma button or via the settings on your coffee machine. The coffee machine will now grind more coffee beans to make a cup of coffee. This way, the coffee machine puts the coffee under a higher pressure, so it creates a richer crema.
Tip 3: lower the water temperature
Does your coffee machine have a function that allows you to adjust the temperature of the water? Set it a little lower. The ideal water temperature for making coffee is between 92 and 95°C. If the temperature is too high, your coffee won't have a crema. You can find out how to adjust the temperature in the manual of your coffee machine.
