What's fast charging and how does it work?
How does fast charging work?
A fast charger supplies more power than a regular charger. As a result, your battery is fully charged in a shorter amount of time. If you need 2 hours to fully charge your device with a 12W charger, you only need 1.5 hours with a 18W charger. In order to protect your battery from damage, it gets charged more and more slowly as the battery fills up. That means fast charging is the fastest at the beginning, after which the speed drops. This makes fast chargers mainly suitable for quickly topping up your empty battery.
What do I need to fast charge my phone?
Not every charger is a fast charger and not every smartphone supports fast charging. In order to fast charge, you need a fast charger and a smartphone with a fast charging function. In addition, there are different fast charging technologies. For example, the fastest way to charge iPhone models is with a Power Delivery fast charger and the fastest way to charge Samsung smartphones is with a Super Fast Charging or Quick Charge fast charger. Is fast charging bad for my battery?
Fast charging doesn't damage your battery. That's because a good charger never supplies more power than your device can handle. As a result, it doesn't matter if you use a fast charger that supplies more power than your device can handle. You can even charge a device that doesn't support fast charging with a fast charger. Your smartphone will charge at the maximum speed for that specific device. The only advantage of regular charging is that your battery doesn't get as hot. We'll tell you more about this in our article on how you should charge.
