How do you restart the System Management Controller (SMC) on your MacBook?

You come home, turn on your MacBook, but the screen stays black. Even when you push the on/off button, your MacBook doesn't respond. There are multiple solutions for this problem. In this article, we'll discuss restarting the SMC.

System Management Controller

SMC stands for System Management Controller. This system takes care of everything, such as the power supply, the fan, and tasks for the screen. If something is going wrong with these things, restarting the SMC may be the solution. Note: only MacBook models with an Intel chip have an SMC.
