Follow the steps below to clean your trimmer safely and thoroughly:
- Turn off the trimmer.
- Blow or brush hairs from the head.
- Rinse the blades under the faucet.
- Lubricate the blades with maintenance oil.
Step 1: turn off the trimmer
Before you start cleaning the trimmer, check if the appliance is turned off. You don't want to accidentally activate the trimmer while you're cleaning it. Trimmers have sharp blades that can easily cause cuts. Once you've turned off the appliance, you can start the cleaning process.
Step 2: blow or brush hairs from the head
After trimming, the head of the trimmer is covered in small hairs. You can easily blow or brush these lingering hairs from the head. Use a cleaning brush to brush them off, it's included with most trimmers. You brush the head carefully and without applying any pressure. That way, you don't stress the blades unnecessarily.
Step 3: rinse the blades under the faucet
If the trimmer is waterproof, you can rinse the blades under the faucet once you've blown or brushed off the hairs. You use lukewarm water without extra cleaners for this and you don't have to wipe the blades with a cloth. Keep in mind that some trimmers aren't fully waterproof. For these trimmers, you have to make sure you only hold the head with the blades under the faucet. In addition to the blades, you can also rinse any comb attachments under the faucets. Detach the comb attachments from the appliance first.
Step 4: lubricate the blades with maintenance oil
Most trimmers have blades that you have to lubricate with oil or cleaning spray after some time. To lubricate the trimmer, you can drip some oil on the blades. Turn the trimmer on afterwards, so the oil is distributed over the blades. The oil ensures that the blades last longer and you can trim your hair smoothly.
