How do you choose the right drying cycle for your laundry?
Choose dryer cycle
When you choose the right dryer cycle, there are a few thing to keep in mind:
- Which type of laundry do you want to dry?
- Do you have allergies or a sensitive skin?
- Do you only want to quickly freshen up musty clothes?
Which type of laundry do you want to dry?
Towels, jeans, and bedding
To dry towels, jeans, and bedding, you choose the cotton cycle. Does your dryer have a special dryer cycle for these types of laundry? Choose that one. For thick fabric of jeans and towels, you can use the 'extra dry' dryness level. That way, you can store them in the closet for a long time. Dry bedding at the lowest temperature possible. Choose the anti-crease phase if your dryer has one.
Cotton shirts and pants
When you dry your standard cotton shirts or pants, you use the cotton cycle. This is the most often used cycle of a dryer. To take care of clothes you use a lot, and to save energy, choose the 'cupboard dry' dryness level. That way, there's still a little moisture in the fibers of your clothes, so they wear less fast. Choose this temperature if that's possible. That way, you make sure your clothes don't shrink.
Synthetic and delicate clothes
For synthetic fabric like polyester or fleece, you choose the synthetic dryer cycle. Do you want to dry your woolen sweater or silk blouse? You can best hang them on a drying rack. To dry them in the dryer, choose the special cycle for silk or wool. If your dryer doesn't have one, you can use the synthetic dryer cycle for these clothes. This way, you dry at a lower temperature, so your clothes are better protected.
Do you have allergies?
Some dryers have a special anti-allergy cycle. This cycle is useful if you're sensitive to allergens like pollen or pet hairs. The dryer dries your bedding or pyjamas at a high temperature, so bacteria and allergens are removed from your laundry. This way, it also doesn't itch as much.
Do you want to freshen up musty laundry?
In addition to drying wet laundry, you can use a dryer to freshen up musty clothes. Some dryers have a special fresh cycle, to blow the musty closet smell from your shirts. There are also dryers with a more elaborate fresh function. These freshen up your clothes with steam without washing them first. With these cycles, you can also remove bad odors from your clothes. This can be old perfume or cigarette smoke, for example.
