How do you maintain your bagless vacuum?
Get started with maintenance
Get started with the maintenance of your bagless vacuum. Use these tips:
- Tip 1: don't roll out the cord completely
- Tip 2: empty the dust cup and clean it
- Tip 3: clean the filters and replace them
- Tip 4: improve the suction power
Tip 1: don't roll out the cord completely
We often completely roll out the cord of a vacuum. This way, you can easily move around the house. The rolling system can wear out when you pull out the cord too hard and too far. It won't roll up well anymore and might even break. That's why you shouldn't pull the cord too hard and leave a few centimeters as a buffer. Some vacuums have a strip at the end of the cord. This way, you know when to stop rolling out.
Tip 2: empty and clean the dust cup
The most important this of a bagless vacuum is emptying and cleaning the dust cup. If you wait too long, the suction power will decrease. You also increase the risk of damage to your vacuum. Empty the dust cup often. Also clean it with a dry cloth occasionally. Do you want to use a wet cloth? That's okay. But dry the dust cup well afterwards. If you don't, dust will stick to the dust cup.
Tip 3: clean or replace the filters
Clean
Bagless vacuums often have 3 filters. A filter in the dust cup, an exhaust filter, and a motor filter. Clean the filter in the dust cup at least every month. Clean the exhaust filter once every 2 months. Clean the motor filter at least once a year. Koch dust off the filters and clean the gently. You can rinse some filters with water. This way, you can clean them even better. You can check the manual of your vacuum to see if you can wash your vacuum filter.
Replace
You'll know when to replace the exhaust filter if you pay attention to the exhaust air. If the vacuum exhausts musty air or when dust gets back in the room, you have to replace the filter. On average, that's once every 6 months. The motor filter lasts longer. Check it from time to time. Mainly check if the vacuum starts to sound differently. For example, the vacuum makes more noise when the filter is old.
Tip 4: improve the suction power
The most important thing of your bagless vacuum is the suction power. Do you notice it's decreasing? Check the dust bag and filters, like explained above. Doesn't this solve the problem? Check the following:
- Check if something blocks the vacuum tube or hose.
- Clean the vacuum brush.
