Expert review Samsung The Premiere LSP9T
Samsung The Premiere LSP9T
- Thanks to the 4K resolution and high contrast ratio, you can enjoy realistic images with bright colors.
- You can watch movies and videos of populair apps thanks to the smart functions.
- Thanks to the ultra short throw, the projector makes a large projection from a small distance to the wall.
- You'll need a tightly-stretched projection screen or even wall for a good projection.
- The projector is very large and weighs 12kg, so it's not very easy to move.
First impression of the LSP9T
I directly notice the size. It's more than half a meter wide and weighs 12kg. The design is minimalist with round edges and just white and gray tones. Besides the projector, I find a power cord, remote with batteries, and a manual in the box. The projector is on in no time. Just place the projector on a table close to the wall or the screen, connect the power cord, and press the power button.
A tightly-stretched screen is required
This projector has an ultra throw function, which means that it can make a projection of 100 to 130 inches from 11cm to the wall. The first attempt in positioning the image failed, because the projection screen wasn't stretched tightly enough. A wavy projection surface is the result. At the second attempt, I use a 'tension projection screen' by Projecta FullVision, which is stretched extra tightly. Thanks to this, the shape of the projection is good and the image is displayed nicely. I really notice the benefits of ultra short throw. For example, I can't walk through the image and the projection is clear, because the projection light doesn't 'lose' much light on its way to the screen.
Strong contrast and color tones
The high contrast ratio, 4K resolution, special 'triple laser projector', and HDR10+ support promise sharp, colorful projections with a strong contrast. Samsung lives up to the expectations. I see realistic images with different color tones, like the subtle green tones in a landscape. One of the conditions for razor-sharp images is that the image has to be captured in 4K resolution too. This is also applicable to HDR10+ images, which are extra colorful and have an extra strong contrast.
Clear sound
The expectation is high in terms of the audio too. The projector has built-in speakers of 40W, which is powerful for a projector. It also has Acoustic Beam, which allows the sound to travel through the room coming from a number of openings. When I start a movie, I hear the speakers are working. The sound is very good and clear for a projector. You need really good hearing to be able to hear the Acoustic Beam, because I don't notice the sound filling the room.
Useful image modes
The Premiere LSP9T has 4 different modes and will automatically convert the image settings. In the Dynamic Mode, I do notice that the brightness of the colors is higher, but I also see less shadows because of this. In the Movie mode, the opposite happens. The brightness of the colors goes down and I can see the differences between dark tones better. In the Movie Maker mode, you'll see the images 'as the director intended them'. This means many details in the shadows and bright colors.
Easy access to Netflix via the smart platform
The Samsung The Premiere LSP9T has a Tizen smart platform. This means that it offers an extensive overview of different popular apps, like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+. I first connect the projector to WiFi. I go to the smart platform, use the remote to scroll through the menu, and choose the app I want. It's very easy, and I can easily switch from one app to the other.
Streaming via Apple AirPlay is smooth
Besides a smart platform, the projector also has AirPlay 2. This allows you to stream images from your Apple device too. It's very simple. I look for the video I want to stream and tap the AirPlay button on my iPhone. I select the projector and I continue the controls for the movie on my Apple device. The only thing that holds me back for a second, is that I don't connect my iPhone to the same WiFi network as the projector. This is required for AirPlay 2.
Conclusion
The Samsung The Premiere LSP9T is a must-have for the real movie enthusiast who doesn't mind spending a little more money on good quality. Because a good image and sound quality is what you get. The images are colorful and sharp, and the sound is clear. You'll also have multiple streaming options thanks to the smart platform and Apple AirPlay 2. Keep in mind that you'll need a tightly-stretched screen or very even wall because of the ultra short throw, so you can prevent a wavy projection.
