Expert review of the LG QNED916PA

For this review, I'll test the 75-inch version of the QNED916PA. This large screen weighs about 36kg, so a colleague will help me install it. We attach it to the base with screws and place it on the TV cabinet. I notice that the screen doesn't stand on the stand very firmly. The screen tilts slightly to 1 side and is a bit wobbly. Luckily, the TV can't fall over. Still, I'm very careful when I touch the TV.

When I put on a documentary on Netflix, I see right away that the colors look really good. The red of a mushroom looks very bright, but doesn't stand out too brightly against the dark background. Especially with the Dolby Vision support, images look very lifelike. On the white stem of the mushroom, you can see all kinds of subtle color tones and shadows. In terms of brightness, the QNED916PA doesn't disappoint either. Bright lights are very clear and don't look dull.

The mini LED backlight gives this TV a high contrast, but the IPS panel usually has a lower contrast than a VA screen. I still notice that the local dimming works very well on large black areas, such as in space. They look truly black. Around lighter objects like a planet on this dark background, I only see a slight glow. While it's less than with many other TVs that have Full Array Local Dimming, I'm a little disappointed by the performance of the mini LED backlight.

The big advantage of IPS panels is the large viewing angle. The screen of the QNED916PA also benefits from this. When I sit in front of the Tv at an angle, I notice that the colors hardly becomes duller and the contrast stays the same. This makes this TV very suitable for watching TV with a lot of people, such as a soccer match. In a bright room, I see the lights reflecting on the screen. Thanks to the high brightness, it doesn't bother me most of the time.

The QNED916PA has 2 regular speakers and 2 subwoofers. Together, they have a total power output of 40W. This setup sounds fine when you watch the news, a talk show, or occasionally stream a movie or series. Voices sound clear and you hardly hear any distortions at an average volume. Do you often watch movies and series and want a more realistic sound? I definitely recommend a separate soundbar. This way, you'll hear the bass more clearly so an explosion in an action movie sounds very realistic.

The design of the QNED916PA is similar to that of LG NanoCell televisions. The screen looks minimalistic and has quite a thin silver edge. The back of the TV is made of an even dark gray plastic. Cables that come out of your TV fit in the back of the stand, which you can close with a special panel. As a result, you won't have any cables tangled up behind the TV. The TV stands on a wide steel stand in the center.

The QNED916PA has enough advantages for gamers with newer consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The TV has a low 13ms input lag, which means you'll hardly notice a delay between pressing the buttons and the action on the screen. In addition, the QNED916PA has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. You can connect your console to it for images with a 4K resolution and a 100Hz refresh rate. Your games look smooth and razor-sharp as a result.

Since 2021, the LG smart platform webOS has a new look. This webOS 6.0 version is full-screen instead of a tile row at the bottom of the screen. The home screen shows the most popular apps and a row of videos. Here, you can see a selection of movies and series based on your viewing behavior. This full-screen menu is very clear and I can easily scroll through it. The app assortment is large, and most apps like Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video have already been installed.

The LG Magic Remote is also very similar to the previous versions. This year, the remote is slightly flatter. This ensures that it's more comfortable to hold and provides a more modern look. Other than that, the Magic Remote works in the same way. I point the remote at the screen to control the cursor that appears on the screen. It takes some getting used to, but you quickly get the hang of it. After that, you can easily navigate through the menus.
