How do I expand my Philips Hue system?
Expanding the Philips Hue
You can easily expand Philips Hue with additional lights. In this article, we'll briefly explain how to do this:
- Determine the location for your new lamp.
- Turn the smart light into the fixture.
- Turn on the light.
- Connect the light to your bridge.
- Add the light in the Hue app.
In addition, we'll tell you which accessories you can also connect to the Philips Hue.
Step 1: choose a location
Consider before you want to expand your system where you want to place the lamps. Do you want to place or replace lights above the dining table, for example? Then you most likely need a light source with an E27 fitting. When it comes to functional lighting in the kitchen, a GU10 spot is the most suitable. Or would you prefer to light a piece of furniture or television with indirect light? The Hue Lightstrip is the atmosphere maker.
Step 2: connect the lamp
- Turn the light in a fixture or in case of another light, power the light.
- Flip the switch, the light has to be on to be found.
- Make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same WiFi network as the bridge.
Step 3: add the lamp
- Open the Philips Hue app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Go to "Settings" and click "Find new lights"
- When the app has found the lights, click "Done"
- Rename the lights if necessary.
Which accessories are there and how do you add them?
In addition to light sources and other lamps, Philips Hue also offers a number of accessories such as switches and a loose bridge. Operating your Philips Hue lamps does not only have to be done with the Philips Hue app. If you do not always have your smartphone or tablet around, an extra switch will come in handy.
Philips Hue dimmer
The Hue dimmer is a wireless switch that lets you switch your lights on and off and dims. You use this switch as a remote control or as a wall switch. Because mounting hardware is supplied, you can easily attach the dimmer to the wall. You also add this switch to your Philips Hue system via the Hue app.
Philips Hue Bridge
To be able to use all functionalities of Philips Hue, you'll need a Philips Hue Bridge. Without a bridge, you can't add extra lights to your Philips Hue system. The bridge is the heart of all Philips Hue lights. It makes sure you can control the lights via your smartphone and tablet.
Connect a second bridge
If you have more than 50 lights or over 20 accessories, you need a second Philips Hue Bridge. The setup is the same as that of your first Hue Bridge. For an extensive explanation, go to the article below. Once you've connected the bridge, you can easily switch between the bridges in the app. In addition, you can move the lights from one bridge to the other after the setup.
