Expert review Apple iPad Air (2022)

The Apple iPad (2022) was launched in March 22. This successor to the iPad Air (2020) was mostly upgraded on the inside. It has a faster and more powerful M1 processor, a Center Stage function, and improved cameras. I tested the iPad Air and will tell you what I think. Some iPad Air (2022) models are also suitable for 5G. I tested a WiFi model, so I was unable to test the 5G function.

  • You can multitask without problems and use multiple apps thanks to the powerful M1 chip.
  • The image is always clear during video calls thanks to the Center Stage function.
  • The slim and light design allows you to take it everywhere with you.
  • You have less storage space than with the 256GB version, and the storage isn't expandable with a memory card.
  • The Apple Pencil (2nd generation) and Magic Keyboard aren't included by default.

First impression of the Apple iPad Air (2022)

The Apple iPad Air (2022) was delivered, and I'm testing it right away. After I open the box and unpack the iPad, I notice how subtle and stylish the white-golden color of this model is. Other than that, this model looks the same as its predecessor. It has straight edges on the side, a thin black border around the screen, and an unlock button on the top. The iPad included a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C fast charger.

Fast and powerful M1 processor

After the iPad is installed, I download some new Apple Arcade games on the device. It doesn't matter how demanding or graphic the game is, this iPad Air (2022) can handle it. That's because of the fast and powerful M1 processor. I can quickly switch between various apps. With the same ease, I can multitask with 2 apps opened next to each other. This allows me to easily watch a series on the bright screen while I finish writing an email.

Always in the picture with Center Stage

iPad Air (2022) vs iPad Air (2020)

I've read about the Center Stage function of the older iPad Pro (2020), but I can now test it myself on the iPad Air (2022). I can FaceTime my grandma while I cook. And if I walk around the kitchen, the iPad keeps following me. That way, I stay in the frame so my grandma can see me. And I can hear my grandma loud and clear thanks to the stereo speakers on the iPad. The Center Stage function doesn't work with the selfie camera when I take a photo or record a video.

Sharp selfie camera and camera on the back

Speaking of the selfie camera, it's improved since its predecessor. The iPad Air (2020) has a 7-megapixel selfie camera, but the iPad Air (2022) has a 12-megapixel selfie camera. I can take razor-sharp photos and videos with it. The camera on the back also has 12 megapixels, which you can take sharp photos with as well. On the 10.9-inch screen of the iPad Air (2022), I have enough space to post edit my photos. I can do so easily and accurately with the Apple Pencil 2. That's because that stylus is compatible with the iPad Air (2022).

Conclusion

The Apple iPad Air (2022) is a stylish Apple tablet. Thanks to the powerful M1 chip, you can easily work with the most demanding apps, programs, and tasks. So you can multitask effortlessly. Thanks to the Center Stage function, you can also make video calls with my loved ones when I'm doing something else. That's because I always stay in the frame. Thanks to the 12-megapixel selfie camera, I'm displayed very sharply. This iPad Air (2022) is compatible with the Apple Pencil 2, so you can edit my photos accurately.
