Fitbit Sense 2 vs Fitbit Sense
Fitbit Sense 2 vs Fitbit Sense
Appearance and design
Fitbit Sense 2: thinner and lighter
The Fitbit Sense 2 was introduced in 2022, and looks a lot like its predecessor from 2020. But they differ in a few ways. The new Sense 2 is 15% lighter than the original Sense. In addition, the new model is 11.4mm thick and 38mm wide. The bezels are slimmer, so the size of the screen is still the same. The physical button is new too. This button is easier to control than the pressure-sensitive sensor of the Fitbit Sense. The new model is available in 3 colors, blue/gold, white/silver, and gray/graphite.
Fitbit Sense: wider bezels
The original Fitbit Sense is 12.4mm thick and 40mm wide. Just like the model from 2022, the screen is 1.58 inches. That's because of the wide, black bezels. With the pressure-sensitive sensor, you can confirm the options in the menu or activate a shortcut. If you accidentally touch the sensor while working out, the training might be stopped. The colors of the straps of the Sense have a slightly different color than the straps of the Sense 2. The straps are interchangeable.
Health
Fitbit Sense 2: continuous stress measurement
The cEDA sensor is new in the Sense 2. Via the skin temperature and your heart rate, this sensor monitors your stress level. If the watch measures stress, a notification will appear on the screen. You'll get options to release stress right away, like meditation or a guided breathing exercise. With the ECG app, you can check for an irregular heart rate. To keep an eye on your mental health, the Sense 2 will ask you to indicate how you feel every once in a while. You can also monitor your sleep, but you'll need a subscription to Fitbit Premium for this.
Fitbit Sense: passive stress measurement
The original Fitbit Sense has the EDA sensor. The difference between the cEDA sensor in the 2022 model and the EDA sensor, is that the measurement isn't performed continuously. To monitor your stress, you should cover the screen in a way that you touch the watch case.
Smartwatch
Fitbit Sense 2: waiting for update
Besides 40 fitness exercises and different health measurements, the Sense 2 also has some useful smartwatch functions. You'll receive all the important notifications on your wallet and you can make contactless payments with Fitbit Pay or Google Wallet. You can use Alexa by Amazon as a voice assistant. You can't use Google Assistant on the Fitbit Sense 2. Fitbit announced that step-by-step navigation via Google Maps will be available after a future update. The ability to answer phone calls via bluetooth is also planned for a later software update.
Fitbit Sense: Alexa and Google Assistant
Surprisingly enough, the original Sense has functions that the new model doesn't have. For example, the Sense supports 2 voice assistants, Alexa by Amazon and Google Assistant. In addition, the new model doesn't support music apps at the moment. The original Sense offers support for Deezer and Spotify. It's not yet clear if this support will become available on the Sense 2.
Conclusion
The differences between the Fitbit Sense 2 and the original Fitbit Sense are small, and sometimes a little surprising. The Sense 2 has the cEDA sensor that monitors your stress level and supports 40 training modes. On the original Sense, you'll find Google Assistant and support for music apps. It depends on your own wishes if you want to upgrade to the new model.
