Advice on iPad converters
Which connector does my iPad have?
Model iPad | Type of connector |
---|---|
Apple iPad Pro (2022/2021/2020/2018), Apple iPad Air (2022/2020), and Apple iPad Mini 6, Apple iPad (2022) | USB-C |
All other Apple iPad models | Lightning |
Lightning and USB-C
The iPad converter needs to have a connector that fits in your iPad. Depending on which iPad model you have, this is either a converter with a Lightning or a USB-C connector.
Types of converters
in addition to the type of connector on your iPad, the connector of the accessory is also important to choose the right converter. There are different types of converters for different types of accessories.
- SD: transfer photos from your camera via a memory card
- 3.5mm audio jack: connect headphones and earbuds
- USB-A: connect devices with a USB-A connector, such as a camera
- HDMI: connect a monitor or television to your iPad
- Ethernet: connect an internet cable
Separate converters or hubs?
You can choose from a separate converter or a hub. The advantage of a hub is that you have multiple connectors at your disposal. There are also hubs with different types of connectors. That's useful if you want to connect multiple accessories to one iPad. The advantage of a separate converter is that they're cheap. If you only want to connect 1 accessory to your iPad, a separate converter with the right connector will do just fine.
