- Step 1: disconnect your air conditioner from power
- Step 2: empty the condenser reservoir daily
- Step 3: keep the casing clean
- Step 4: clean the filters
Step 1: disconnect your air conditioner from power
Before you start the maintenance, be sure to remove the device from power. Remove the plug from the air conditioner or the socket.
Step 2: remove the condenser reservoir daily
During the hot summer days, the air conditioner dehumidifies the air. That's why it's important to empty the condenser reservoir on a daily basis. The air conditioner will continue to work that way, because a portable air conditioner turns off when the condenser reservoir is full. You should also empty the condenser reservoir if you don't use the air conditioner for a while. If the water stays in there for a while, it'll start to smell bad.
Step 3: keep the casing clean
If there's dust on the casing, the air conditioner will blow this into the room. How often you should clean the casing depends on your house. Do you have a lot of dust at home? Wipe off the casing on a weekly basis. You should also clean the casing with a damp cloth without cleaners. Do this every other week or so.
Step 4: clean the filters
Most portable air conditioners have 1 or multiple filters. You find them at the back of the appliance. With dirty filters, the air conditioner moves less air around. That's why it's important to clean these filters, so dust doesn't build up. Check the manual how to clean the filters of your air conditioner.
