Tip 1: check and empty the dust collector
The dust collector of a bagless canister vacuum is often transparent. This way, you can easily estimate when to empty the dust cup. The more often you empty a bagless vacuum, the better. This way, dust can't build up. You don't have to throw away the vacuum cleaner bag of your bagged vacuum after each use. It's enough to replace it every 3 months.
Tip 2: clean the filters
If dust collect in the filters of your vacuum, they reduce the suction power. It's important that you regularly clean the filter. Knock the dust off the filter, clean it with another vacuum, or brush it down. It's hard to estimate how often you should clean a filter. That depends on how often you vacuum and the filter type. Clean the filter at least once every 6 months.

The floor attachment of your vacuum is the first to touch the dirt. Pet hairs and dust bundles are especially stubborn and can block the floor attachment. This reduces the suction power. Check the floor attachment regularly for stuck hairs or dust and remove it.
