Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless White + BlueBuilt Quick Charge Charger with USB-A Port 18W

The Sennheiser Momentum 4 looks completely different from its predecessor. With its new design and high wearing comfort, high sound quality and top-class noise canceling, I enjoy my favorite music immensely. The only thing I find disappointing is the equalizer.

Premium design with high wearing comfort
When I take the headphones out of the packaging, I immediately notice the design. This one is completely different from that of the Momentum 3, which has more of an industrial look. I like this new design and it looks more premium. I put the headphones on my head and immediately notice that the wearing comfort is high. The leather of the ear pads is very soft and fits nicely around my ears. The headband is just as soft, allowing me to listen to my favorite songs for hours without irritating my scalp.

Nice sound with a lot of detail
The sound quality of these headphones is high. I hear a lot of detail in my favorite songs, which makes listening to music even more fun. I myself listen to a lot of dance music, where the low tones play a prominent role. With this genre I notice that the bass can handle well, but I think it could be a bit firmer sometimes. In the Sennheiser Smart Control app I change the sound via an equalizer, where I emphasize the low tones. I just don't notice much of this, which I think is a shame.

In addition to adjusting the sound via an equalizer, I change many more settings in the Sennheiser app. The app is very extensive and that's great, because it allows me to customize the headphones completely. For example, I download updates and change the strength of the noise canceling.

Top class noise canceling
The noise canceling is top class and dampens a lot of ambient noise. For example, I work in the office and I am much less bothered by colleagues talking next to me, so that I can fully focus on my work. When I take the train home during rush hour, the noise canceling ensures that I am not bothered by the busy train compartment. This makes me completely immersed in the music. With the noise canceling turned on, these headphones last 60 hours on a full charge. That way it lasts for days without having to charge it.

I have always been a big fan of Sennheiser and have also had the Sennheiser Momentum 2 before these headphones, but I have to say that I am not happy with the Momentum 4.

First I will mention the good points. The first: the sound quality, the headphones sound wonderful. The depth of the bass combined with clear highs makes for a great listening experience. These are hands down the best sounding headphones I've ever owned. The second positive point is the comfort, with the thick cups the wearing comfort is so nice that I wear it for hours without any effort.

However, not all aspects of the Momentum 4 are rosy. The on-head detection has regular glitches for me. The headphones have the idea that they are no longer on my head at the slightest shift. This leads to clumsy interactions, where I have no control over the headphones and the auto-pause function is more of a nuisance than a help. Phone calls are unnecessarily complicated by the feature's automatic muting, forcing me to switch to my phone. You can disable the feature, but that leads to me inadvertently operating the headphones with my chest when they're hanging around my neck.

Furthermore, the headphones seem to have trouble isolating my voice during conversations. Even worse, it seems to amplify ambient noise, which often disrupts outdoor conversations. Even soft background noises such as keyboard clicks, the turning of a newspaper, or birds in the garden are prominently conveyed to my interlocutors. Because of this I often have to switch to the my phone, or the speaker function that works better.

The build quality, while generally solid, also has a few disappointments. After only seven months of use, the fabric on the top of the belt has already started to peel off. I am currently looking into whether this is covered under warranty, if not I will have to glue it myself to prevent further wear and tear.

Although I have always been a fan of Sennheiser, this product unfortunately did not live up to my high expectations. Given the price range of these headphones, that is a particular disappointment.

I have had the momentum 4 since September 2022, so almost a year now. Since a month ago, the fabric on the headband has started to peel off. I see several people mention this online and also that it is not under warranty because it is wear and tear. I'm otherwise quite satisfied so it's a shame for an expensive pair of headphones.

In addition, the Bluetooth connection is not always stable.

The battery lasts a long time and the app works well, as long as your phone is not too old, because then it can charge quite slowly.

At first I was satisfied but I would not recommend these headphones at full price.
