According to our bike navigation expert
The Garmin Edge 530 is a comprehensive bike navigation system that measures and displays a lot of training data during your bike ride. This helps you to improve your cycling performance. You can read your VO2 max, recovery time, and training balance on the clear anti-glare screen of the Garmin 530. The ClimbPro function is interesting for avid cyclists. You can see at what altitude you are and what you can expect on your route. You can control the Garmin 530 Edge with buttons, which is useful during bumpy rides. Do you like long rides on your road bike or mountain bike? The battery of the Edge 530 lasts up to 20 hours with GPS on, so you'll always get home. Thanks to accident detection, your preset emergency numbers will be notified in case of an emergency.

After the Edge 705 and 810, I switched to the 820 3 years ago. In terms of functionality, it was an improvement, but the battery was disappointing from the start and it only got worse. This winter there was only 40% left after a 2 hour ride. Time for something new! Despite the experience with the touchscreen on the 810 and 820, this time I opted for the button operation of the 530. The other extras of the 830, such as searching and navigating to POIs, I do not use anyway (you have Komoot on the iPhone for that, for example). The key operation takes some getting used to, but because the menu structure is almost the same as the 820 and even shows similarities with my Fenix 5X Plus, you get used to it quickly. Putting it into use is a piece of cake with the aid of Garmin Connect's TrueUp feature: all data was taken from the old Edge (data fields, activity profiles, sensors). The (re)calculation of routes is much faster than with the 820. Previously I regularly had to wait 5 minutes or longer for a route to be calculated, now it is a matter of 10 to 20 seconds. Only when driving in the wrong direction does it happen that the "turn around" indication remains on the screen for a long time. I already knew Climb Pro from my Fenix 5x Plus and I also think it is a nice, useful addition to this Edge 530. The only drawback is that the Climb Pro screen does not disappear automatically, so that you miss the map and specific data fields during navigation. I am very pleased with the battery. After a ride of 6.5 hours I still had 65% left and after a ride of 3.5 hours I still had 83%. And that was with navigation on, backlighting on automatic and various sensors linked, both via bluetooth and ANT+ (speed sensor, power meter + cadence meter, heart rate monitor).

The battery lasts long enough, after 5 hours of cycling I still had 76% left. The navigation is easy to follow and integration with strava works as you would expect. The push buttons are easy to operate and will therefore not pose a problem with gloves or in the rain.
