According to our binoculars expert
The Vortex Viper HD 8x42 is a binocular for active spotters. You use the binoculars for hunting, traveling, sport or bird watching. By using HD lens elements you have a sharp and high-contrast image with a magnification of 8x. Around the housing of the binoculars is a rubber protective layer that provides extra grip. Thanks to the O rings and gas filling, the viewer is sealed against moisture, dust and dirt. This keeps the vision clear. The scratch-resistant coating protects the lenses against scratches, grease stains and dirt. With an eye distance of 18mm, the binoculars are suitable for eyeglass wearers.

First let's explain the "negative" points: The viewer has a minimal pin-cushion effect that makes a straight wall appear to be a little bit hollow. In nature, however, you do not suffer from this at all. The depth of field is very small. This has the advantage that the object, which you have focused on, is nicely separated from the background, but you can possibly miss any other things that happen in the vicinity. The positives seem clear enough to me. A large field of view can be added which is easy for quickly finding the object you want to view. Also, I don't see any discoloration along high contrast edges (yellow or purple edges). The protective caps fit nice and tight so that they cannot fall off on their own. Compared to a Swarovski (EL 8.5x42), these binoculars are slightly blurry along the extreme edges of the image, but otherwise I see little to no difference. I think this viewer is an absolute must for those who want a good viewer but don't have the power to pay for it.

I already had a Diamondback, but I lost it, so glad I could buy the Viper now.
