After use, you can return the empty cartridges at Canon for free. These will be used again or recycled. That way, you do your bit for the environment. Not fully compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra
I'm putting this comment a bit OUT of context (printer is fine). I use this device on an Apple network with some macs and since the macOS upgrade to 10.12 the IJ Scan Utility no longer works. The same goes for a large number of other Canon printers. There's a Mac forum about that now.
