Design

The Frame: like a painting on the wall

The Frame: like a painting on the wall

The Frame is designed to look like a real painting. That's why the TV comes with the No Gap wall mount and you can request a frame via Samsung. That way, the TV looks stylish tightly against the wall. Thanks to the One Connect Box, you won't be bothered by a lot of cables behind the television. You can connect the TV to this box which contains the connectors for all your devices via a single transparent cable. The Frame is available in 6 sizes.

The Serif: a stylish piece of furniture

The Serif: a stylish piece of furniture

The Serif is a stylishly designed television which doesn't blend into your interior, but stands in your living room like an eyecatcher. The casing is wider at the top, so you can put books or other small objects on it. The TV stands on 4 slim legs, about 45cm above the floor. This TV doesn't come with a One Connect Box, but the you can elegantly conceal the cables via a cable duct on one of the legs.

Image quality

The Frame: QLED, Dual LED, edge LED, matte screen

The Frame: QLED, Dual LED, edge LED, matte screen

The Frame has a QLED screen, so you can watch with 100% color volume. This means the more subtle color tones are clearly visible, such as variations in a blue sky or shadows. Thanks to the matte layer over the screen, it really looks like a painting is hanging on your wall. You'll also barely be bothered by annoying reflections on your screen thanks to this layer. Due to the edge LED backlight, you won't see deep black levels. The image of The Frame still has a clear and realistic contrast, thanks to the Dual LED backlight. This technology adjusts the color temperature to the content you're watching.

The Serif: QLED, edge LED, matte screen

The Serif: QLED, edge LED, matte screen

The Serif also uses the QLED technology of Samsung. This means you can watch TV with clear color details. The Serif also has a matte layer over the screen. So you also won't be bothered by reflections of direct sunlight, for example. This television doesn't have Dual LED backlight, so the contrast isn't as good as with The Frame. Due to the edge LED backlight, the image doesn't have deep black levels, just like with The Frame. This is because the LED lighting on the edges of the screen needs to be bright to illuminate the center of the screen.

Extra functions

The Frame: show artworks via the Art Store

The Frame: show artworks via the Art Store

On a The Frame television, you can show artworks via the Art Store when you aren't watching TV. With a subscription to this Samsung service, you have access to over 1200 paintings and photos. Because The Frame in this mode adjusts the brightness to the lighting in your room, it really looks like you have art on the wall. That way, you never have to look at a black screen in your room.

The Serif: Ambient Mode and NFC

The Serif: Ambient Mode and NFC

The Serif doesn't have an Art Store, but it does have the Ambient Mode. Via the SmartThings app from Samsung, you can make the image of the television show the same colors as your wall or the pattern of your wallpaper. Some images in Ambient Mode also show the time and weather. There's an NFC point on the top of the TV. If you place your smartphone on it, you can connect it to the television in no time. That way, you can easily play music from your smartphone.

Conclusion

In addition to minor differences in image quality, The Frame and The Serif mainly differ in design. So the choice between these 2 televisions mainly depends on your taste. Do you want a TV that really blends into your interior and hangs on the wall? Then The Frame is a good choice. The Serif is suitable if you want a real eyecatcher which looks like a stylish piece of furniture in your room.
