How do you measure the niche dimensions for a built-in dishwasher?
Measure niche dimensions dishwasher in 6 steps
With the 6 steps below, you can measure the niche dimensions of your built-in dishwasher. You don't have to take out the dishwasher for this.
- Step 1. Measure the front panel.
- Step 2. Measure the niche height.
- Step 3. Determine the door system type.
- Step 4. Measure the niche depth.
- Step 5. Measure the niche width.
- Step 6. Check the dimensions
Step 1: measure the front panel
Fully integrated
You'll find the controls of the dishwasher on the inside. There's a front panel on the outside, so you can't tell that it's a dishwasher. If you have such a model, measure the front panel. Does the panel stick out above the dishwasher or do you have a handle-free kitchen? Measure from the bottom of the front panel to the control panel of the dishwasher.
Semi-integrated
You control the dishwasher from the outside. The front panel doesn't cover the entire front of the dishwasher, but stops at the control panel. If you have such a model, measure the front panel up to the control panel.
Step 2: measure the niche height
The niche is the space your dishwasher is placed in. It's important to know the height of that space. Keep the floor in front of the niche in mind. It's often a bit higher than the floor of the niche, because the niche floor isn't laminated or tiled. Measure from the floor up to the top of your dishwasher. Make sure you keep the measuring tape straight.
Step 3: determine the door system type
Sliding door system
There are 2 ways to attach a front panel to the dishwasher. If you have a sliding door system, the panel slides upwards when you open the dishwasher. So the front panel moves towards you in this case. Don't know which one you need? A sliding door system is always suitable.
Door-on-door system
With a door-on-door system, the front panel is attached to the dishwasher door. This means that the panel doesn't move when you open the dishwasher.
Step 4: measure the niche depth
Is your dishwasher still in the niche? Open a kitchen cabinet next to your dishwasher and measure the niche depth here. Pull the measure tape from the back of the cabinet to the front. Are there pipes behind the dishwasher? Measure these too and subtract them from the total depth.
Step 7: measure the niche width
The niche width of a dishwasher is 45 to 60cm wide. Use the tape measure to measure from the left side to the right side of the dishwasher. The standard niche width of a kitchen is 60cm.
Tip 6: check the dimensions
Now that you've measured everything, it's important that you choose a built-in dishwasher that suits your needs. This way, you can be sure that it'll fit in your kitchen. Keep all of the measurements on hand and select the suitable options in our product filter. On the product page, you can find a installation drawing of the model. Do you find it difficult to measure the niche dimensions properly? Find your current dishwasher model online and use the dimensions of that product.
Do you have a handle-free kitchen?

Example of a handle-free dishwasher
-
Measure up to the metal strip
In a handle-free kitchen, the dishwasher doesn't have a handle or grip to open the door. If you have a handle-free dishwasher, you should measure the niche height and front panel height in a different way. For the niche height, measure from the floor to the bottom of the metal strip or handle behind the door. For the front panel height, measure from the bottom of the front panel to the top of the control panel of the dishwasher.
