How do you choose a fast wireless charger?

With a fast wireless charger, you can charge your smartphone up to 4 times faster than with a normal charger. Your charger should have the same charging profile as your smartphone for this. We'll explain what to look for when purchasing a wireless fast charger here.

Which charging profile do you need?

The charging profile is a specific technology that makes fast wireless charging possible. Your smartphone and your wireless charger need to have the same charging profile. If you want to fast charge your iPhone, your wireless charger needs to support wireless fast charging for iPhone models. So don't just choose a high-power charger. If the charger doesn't have the correct charging profile, it'll charge at regular speed. Make sure you choose a wireless charger that's suitable for your smartphone brand. You don't have to worry about accessories like smartwatches, because only smartphones can fast charge wirelessly.

Which charger has which charging profile?

Your wireless charger doesn't have to be the same brand as your smartphone. Just make sure to check which charging profile the charger supports. Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Huawei all have their own charging profile. Sony, Nokia, and LG all use a universal charging profile. Fortunately, wireless fast chargers often support multiple charging profiles. Most wireless fast chargers support fast charging on both Apple and Samsung smartphones. This is especially useful for chargers that charge multiple smartphones at the same time. The charging profiles of OnePlus and Huawei can only be found on chargers of those brands.

Apple and MagSafe

Apple has 2 different charging profiles. All iPhone models from the iPhone 8 support wireless fast charging with 7.5W, including the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. The iPhone 14, 13, and 12 devices also support extra fast charging via MagSafe chargers. Thanks to the built-in MagSafe magnet, your charger is always in the right spot to provide maximum power. With older iPhone models, extra fast charging and the magnetic attachment doesn't work. So there's no point in buying a MagSafe charger for that.

Samsung: 15W charger

For Samsung, the maximum charging speed differs per device. Every Samsung smartphone that supports wireless charging can fast charge with 9W. You can find this charging profiles in chargers by Samsung itself and in chargers by other brands. It allows you to fully charge your smartphone in 2.5 to 3 hours. From the S20 and Note 20, the S and Note series devices support extra fast charging with 15W. And so does the Fold series from the Fold 2. With this, you can fully charge your device in less than 2 hours. Only 15W chargers by Samsung itself have this fast charging technology, chargers by other brands don't.

OnePlus

Wireless fast charging other brands

OnePlus developed its own wireless fast charging technology, which you'll only find in official OnePlus wireless chargers. Wireless chargers by other brands do charge your device, but it takes 3 to 4 hours. With the right OnePlus charger, you can fully charge your device in 60, 40, or even 30 minutes. It differs per OnePlus device which wireless charger you need. Choose the 50W Warp Charge charger for the OnePlus 9T and the 30W Warp Charger for the OnePlus 8 Pro, for example.
