How do you choose a fan?

A table fan is small, so you can easily place it on your desk or table. Table fans often don't have exciting properties, but they do exactly what you expect them to do on a hot day: keep you cool. Most table fans have multiple settings, so you can choose the desired speed. You can also let a fan move side to side or let it blow into 1 direction.

A pedestal fan is the most commonly used fan and you can place it on the floor. You can adjust the height of most of them and adjust the settings with a remote. These fans also often have an oscillating function and other properties, like a timer. They don't take up a lot of space, but they cool large spaces well.

A tower fan is similar to a pedestal fan, but it's much smaller. This way, it takes up little space and you can easily place it between furniture. The tower fan oscillates by itself, so you can feel a cool breeze in every corner of the room. Most tower fans also have a timer, so it turns off by itself. That's useful in the bedroom.

With oscillating fans, the fan moves back and forth. We call this movement oscillating. Fans that turn spread out the cool air well. You can fill an entire space with a cool breeze. Most fans go from left to right. Some fans also oscillate upwards and downwards. These are mostly pedestal fans.

The power of the airflow also influences the cooling. The faster the blades turn, the more air is moved. A hard wind feels cooler. Do you want to choose the degree of cooling yourself? Go for a fan with several settings. This way, you can easily adjust how hard the fan blows. Keep in mind that you use more energy with a higher speed. The fan also makes more noise in a high setting.

Does the fan have a timer? You can set yourself when the fan turns on or off. That's useful, because you can feel a cool breeze in your house right away when you come home. When you use the fan in the bedroom, the timer is also a useful function. This way, the fan won't be turned on the entire night while you've fallen asleep.

With some fans, a remote is included. That's useful, because you can control the fan remotely. You can turn it on from your bed or change the airflow from the couch, for example. You don't have to get up.

There are also fans that work with an app. These fans have WiFi, so you can turn them on and off and adjust the settings from a larger distance. This means that you can change the settings from the couch as well as from an entirely different room in your house.
