Via which type of telephone landline can you make calls?

Not every phone connector is the same. There are 3 types of connectors. You can have analog, (A)DSL, and VoIP. The type of connector affects the number of calls you can have at the same time and the quality of the call. That's why I'll explain what you can do with each type of phone connector and what the pros and cons are in this article.

Analog connection

Analog connection

To an analogue connection, link 1 telephone number with which you call. An advantage to analogue calling is that the phone always works, even if the power fails. On the other hand, it is not possible to link several telephone numbers, so you can only be reached on one number. When you are talking on an analog line, a new caller hears the busy tone. Do you only have an analog connection? Then the use of the Internet during calling is not possible.

(A)DSL

ADSL

With an (A)DSL / VDSL connection, you still make analog calls, but your phone line is split into a phone line and internet connection. The advantage of an ADSL connection is that you can still use the internet when you make a call. You still only have 1 phone number, so only 1 contact can reach you at a time. This makes DSL more common for home use than business use.

VoIP

VoIP

VoIP stands for Voice over IP, so internet telephony. Instead of calling via an analogue or digital line, you can call VoIP via the internet. This form of calling has the advantage that the call quality is better than with other lines. You also call against a lower fixed monthly amount. On the other hand, if you have a power failure, your telephone connection is out, because VoIP equipment is electric. Do you want to know what else you use VoIP for? Then read the article below.
