How do you solve an error code from your HP printer?
It's annoying if your HP printer gives an error, but it also provides clarity. The error code lets you know where the problem lies and makes it easier to find out how to solve it. There are error codes with numbers and error codes with number/letter combinations. Below, you can read what the most common error codes are, what they mean, and how to fix the errors.
Types of error codes
Numbers
There are many different error codes for HP printers. Some of these codes consist of 2 numbers.
- 02: Remove the printer cable and restart the printer. Does the printer indicate Ready? Update the driver via the Firmware Updates menu. Next, reconnect the printer cable. If the problem doesn't go away, replace the printer cable.
- 13: The paper is jammed. Open the cover of your printer on the front or back, depending on where the paper is jammed. Grab the jammed paper with both hands and gently pull it out of the printer in a straight line.
- 41/49: Press Cancel to cancel the print and try again. Check if all covers are closed.
Number/letter combinations
Number and letter combinations There are also error codes that consist of numbers and letters.
- 0XB80AFA20: a problem with the WiFi connection. Restart your router and printer.
- 0xB80AF934: a problem with the wireless connection. Connect in a different way, preferably with a USB printer cable. Install the most recent drivers for the printer. After the installation, set up your printer so it can use the wireless network.
- 0XC19A0023: a printer head error. Turn off the printer, wait at least 30 seconds, and turn the printer on again. Doesn't this solve the problem? Perform a reset as described in the next paragraph.
- B81565BC: a general error on a blue screen. First, try to reset the printer. Didn't that solve the problem? Contact the customer service.
- 6201922A: turn off the printer and unplug it from the socket. Press and hold the on-button for 30 seconds and turn the printer back on.
Cartrige or toner cartridge problem
Many error codes are due to a problem with the cartridge or toner cartridge. You might see the following error codes:
- 0x4CEB800 HWLMICCI2 C: a problem with the cartridge or the ink carriage. Clean the contacts of the cartridge with a dry lint-free cloth, or use the printer head cleaning via the control panel of the printer. If the ink carriage is jammed, disconnect the printer from the power and remove the paper that blocks the rails of the ink carriage. Gently move the ink carriage from left to right if necessary.
- 12: check if the toner cartridges of your printer are installed correctly and if the hatch is closed.
- 0xc19a0020: an ink problem. Use the method described in the following paragraph to rest your printer and cartridges.
Reset the HP printer
If the above solutions don't help, you can reset the HP printer as follows:
- Switch on the printer.
- Is your printer connected via a data cable? Remove it from the printer.
- Remove the cartridges or toner cartridges from your printer.
- Remove the connector from the socket and the printer while the printer is switched on.
- Wait at least 1 minute.
- Connect the printer to the socket and switch it back on.
- Re-insert the cartridges or toners into the printer and close the cover.
- Does the printer indicate that the device needs to calibrate? Press OK and let the printer do its job.
- Reconnect the printer using the data cable.
- You've reset the printer.
