Get started with the Dyson V8 and V10 stick vacuums

You just got your new Dyson vacuum and can't wait to start vacuuming. To make sure you get the most out of your Dyson V8 or V10 and maintain it as well as possible, we'll give you 4 tips here.

Get started with the Dyson V8 or V10

Read the following tips and get started with your new V8 or V10 stick vacuum from Dyson as well as possible.

Tip 1. Fully charge the battery

Tip 2. Empty and clean the dust cup and filter in time

Tip 3. Keep the main brush clean

Tip 4. Use the small accessories

Tip 1: fully charge the battery

Dyson V8 wall charger

Charge your new Dyson stick vacuum before you start using it. It's fully charged when all 3 lights are on. This way, you calibrate the battery to make sure it's really full. In addition, a full battery provides good suction power, so you can easily start vacuuming. You won't be interrupted by an empty battery while cleaning.

Tip 2: empty and clean the dust cup and the filter in time

Dyson V10 dust cup

Empty and clean the dust cup

If the dust cup is too full, the motor can get damaged. It also reduces the suction power. Does the amount of collected dirt come up higher than the word 'MAX'? In theory, you're already too late to empty it. Empty the dust cup as often as possible, preferably after every use. That way, you'll never be too late and you prevent any potential problems. Is the dust cup dirty after some time? Detach it and clean it with a moist cloth.

Wash Dyson V10 filter

Clean and remove filter

You have to clean the filter at least once every 6 months. Since they're washable filters, you can do this under the faucet. Leave the filter out to dry for 24 hours before you put it back. Check the manual for exact instructions on how to do this. Filters are a very important part of your vacuum. That's why we recommend you knock out the filter on a regular basis in the meantime, so it can keep breathing.

Tip 3: keep the main brushes clean

Release Dyson V8 and V10 turbo brush

Motorized multi-surface brush

The coarse hairs of the motorized multi-surface brush easily pick up dirt and reach deep into the fibers of the carpet. But dirt like hairs and dust also build up on the bristles. That's why you should regularly check the bristles. Slide the hatch to the side on the side of the vacuum brush and pull out the brush roller. After, you can pull the built-up dirt and hairs loose or carefully remove them with scissors.

Release Dyson fluffy brush

Fluffy (parquet) brush

Because the fluffy brush spins over your hard floors at high speed, it mostly picks up fine dust. This brush is also released by opening the hatch on the side. Make sure you check the rotating mechanisms on the side of the brush. Hair tend to get tangled up in them. This has a negative effect on the suction power, so check and clean them regularly.

Tip 4: use the small accessories

Dyson V8 LED crevice tool

Depending on which model you have, you'll receive different types of accessories. Both the V8 and V10 stick vacuums have a combination accessory that functions as a soft dusting brush and a upholstery tool. With it, you can vacuum your couch, but also delicate surfaces like your keyboard or the dashboard of your car.
